BOX OFFICE IS STRONGER THAN EVER, thanks to the audience mainstream Hollywood continues to ignore. WE are changing all that.

Today Hollywood makes over 70% of its total box office revenue overseas. And here in the U.S., multi-ethnic households are the fastest growing demographic, with multiracial teens accounting for 40% of the entire domestic teen population! Yet mainstream Hollywood continually alienates this massively expanding and virtually ignored market.

WE are changing all that.

Skyrocketing global box office

From the 1950’s through the 1970’s, Hollywood earned about 30% of its money overseas. That percentage began to climb in the 1980’s and today the average studio production earns over 70% of its revenue abroad. Some industry figures predict it could soon rise to 80%. This means Hollywood is becoming an export industry, making movies primarily for people who live outside the U.S.

Historically, Asian markets generated a fraction of revenue compared to Europe and Latin America. But today Hollywood movies take about 96% of the box office receipts in Taiwan, about 78% in Thailand, and about 65% in Japan. The American film industry sees the growing markets of Asia as its next great frontier. Analysts predict that within twenty years Asia alone could be responsible for as much as 60% of Hollywood’s total box office revenue. Hollywood is becoming an export industry.

Yet despite pursuing these billions of viewers worldwide, mainstream Hollywood continues to operate in ways that fail to incorporate or reflect the true diversity of today’s global audience.

Unified versus Segregated Markets

African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans together wield formidable American economic clout.

Look to any forward-thinking corporation in America and you find Diversity Divisions which specifically seek out the buying power of these rapidly expanding and lucrative markets.

Mainstream Hollywood is no exception, but its antiquated approach grasps at straws and worse, continually alienates a potentially massive and completely ignored unified market.

Mainstream Hollywood continues to court these highly profitable markets through their antiquated concept of “race films”, repeatedly targeting racial stereotypes and lowest common denominators. Hence “urban” films equal glorified gangsta tales, “Asian” films equal martial arts mediocrities, etc.

By segregating and stereotyping these massive populations, which are neither simplistically like-minded nor a mass of cultural clones, mainstream Hollywood repeatedly fails to capitalize on the singular attribute we each share in common: Our very human-ness, and our inherent right and desire to be perceived and depicted as equals.

WE intend to do just that.

The most promising future on the planet

In 2009, the combined buying power of African Americans, Asians, and Native Americans will be more than triple its 1990 level of $242 billion, and will exceed $1.5 trillion, a gain of $1.1 trillion or 242%. All these target markets will grow much faster than the white market, where buying power will increase by only 140%.

Selig Center for Economic Growth

As we witness the New America manifesting right before our eyes, its massive potential for profit is linked hand in hand with the potential for positive and meaningful change.

The invisible Majority

The global audience is tiring of stars and stories that bear little resemblance to their daily lives, let alone their dreams.

So in pursuit of the billion-dollar global revenue stream, what is mainstream Hollywood’s forward-thinking answer? “Race films for foreigners”, with studio specialty divisions pitching camp abroad and pouring dollars into euphemistically termed ‘foreign-specific’ fare.

And while it may make sense to push their foot through the door before it slams shut altogether, mainstream Hollywood again completely misses an opportunity at the juiciest piece of the pie chart.

WE intend to seize that opportunity.

Everyone Plays a Starring Role

In today’s New America, everyone plays a starring role in each other’s day-to-day lives. Every creed and every color, with today’s undisputed “cultural cool” defined by a racially mixed posse of pals typified in today’s hottest ad campaigns, and in fact reaching straight into the White House itself.

We firmly believe that this unified audience is Hollywood’s most untapped natural resource. And statistics continually support these seismic socio-economic shifts.

The same global audience that has become ignited by the rise of a young, mixed-race U.S. senator to the highest position of power on the planet, is the identical population – from every corner of the world – who stand poised with wallets ready for that trickle-down effect to manifest their dream via true global entertainment.

WE intend to honor that dream.
